Description: Printed in oval format.

Notes: George Davidson was the director of the “Coast Survey of the Pacific.” He is shown seated in the foreground of the photograph. In 1881, Davidson twice measured the Yolo base line, one of the geodesic base lines that formed the foundation of triangulating distances in California. The “Yolo Buggy” was 51 feet long.
